Hybholts here, Day 9

Weekend again, and another big day planned! We wanted to finally check out the Legoland Dubai which has been open now for just over a year.

We started in the Miniland, which is my favourite part in any Legoland! This one is the first fully air-conditioned one I have been to though!

Of course the Miniland here represents the region, with models recreating landmarks from the Dubai cityscape. Amongst other things the Marina, Downtown, DIFC, Burj Al Arab and of course, the Burj Khalifa.

My favourite model was, not surprisingly, the model of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. So so pretty, even in Lego! It was made in a scale of 1:30 and with 536,292 Lego bricks. Beautiful and impressive both in size and in detail.

Sheikh Zayed Road, with the hotels, Dubai Mall and metro stations included:

Even this replica of the world's tallest building Burj Khalifa is breaking records, of course! This Lego model is 17 meters high and built at a scale of 1:50 of the original building, which makes it the tallest Lego building structure ever made. It took over 5,000 hours to build and 439,000 Lego bricks were used.
The Dubai fountain at the foot of Burj Khalifa was dancing here in Miniland, just like the real one, spraying water to music through 112 jets every so often.

The Miniland also had models of other famous landmarks from around the region, as the Taj Mahal, the pyramids in Cairo, Jordan and the 10 tallest buildings in the world:

The Dubai airport model and the big Emirates 380 were pretty cool too!

The Etisalat HQ, the WTC and the Emirates Towers.

The Miniland was great, but... I must admit we weren't that impressed with the rest of the park. I have been both to the original Legoland in Billund, Denmark (several times), and the Windsor one in England - and this was nothing like those two parks.
I guess our kids were actually slightly too old at 11, 12 and 14 (Lucas didn't come as he had a rugby game). There was only a few rides which were actually worth going on for them. The rest was more for just play, which would suit younger kids from 3-10 years old I guess. We easily managed to cover the whole park in little over 3 hours, with a lunch break.

Well, well, it still was a good day spent with lovely people. Here are some more shots:

We all went together on the submarine ride, which was really nice with lots of real fish, sharks and even rays.

And my finally I want to share my favourite shot from the day:
